This beautiful Red Pink Camellia Flower enamel pin features the lovely flower that's also known by its scientific name, Camellia japonica for the spring-blooming variety. There is also an autumn-blooming camellia known as the Camellia sasanqua. Camellia japonica is native to China and Japan and is often grown as an ornamental for its beautiful flowers. Cultivation of these types of camellias were recorded as far back as the Song Dynasty. Camellia japonica is different from Camellia sinensis, which is the plant most often harvested for its leaves and flowers to make tea. Camellia japonica is not a national flower, but it is the state flower of Alabama where it is sometimes referred to as, "Winter's Rose".
